Primp Clothing Brings Girly Without the Frilly
Your favorite sweats aren’t just for wearing at home anymore. Primp designers Wells Butler and Emily Kersman have brought us high fashion in the form of lounge-wear. Primp now features dresses, sweaters, and t-shirts along with the brand’s famous sweats.
Primp clothing is unique, comfortable, and above all- girly and feminine. Butler and Kersman may be shrewd businesswomen, but deep down they know what every woman knows: at the end of the day, we just want to pamper ourselves. Primp got its start long before it was a brand. One of designer Wells Butler’s favorite past times used to be shopping at thrift stores, then using her imagination and design skills to alter thrift finds into brand new looks. Butler’s aesthetic gives a definite nod to 1980’s fashion, possibly because that’s when she got her start.
While the Primp girls did have a class together at The Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising, they were actually introduced via a common client. At the time, both girls were still studying at FIDM. Butler was working at a high-end women’s boutique clothing store, and Kersman was working as an esthetician. Together, they had the vision to create an upscale women’s clothing line– and the knowledge to market it.
When Primp first launched in 2004, Butler and Kersman made every item by hand and personally delivered the clothes to the few boutiques willing to carry them. Within months, Primp was being worn by Jessica Simpson, Hilary Duff, and Paris Hilton. Primp’s comfortable, stylish, and girly pieces were seen on “The Newlyweds”, and on “The Simple Life”, sparking major interest in the brand. Now Primp is available at high-end women’s boutiques throughout the world.
